I had to go get some blood samples taken this morning but Katy couldn't drive me to the clinic. No problem, I naively figured. I'll just take a cab. Sounds easy, right?

The clinic is normally a 5 minute drive away from our house.

The first cab company I called told me that they didn't have a cab available because all of theirs were booked to go elsewhere at that time. The second company I called would have charged me £25, because they had to drive from Cambridge to pick me up and would charge me for it. Same thing for the third. The fourth and fifth were completely booked up. The sixth didn't answer its phone. The seventh would have had a slot, but only if I was going in the other direction.

Finally, the eight cab company I tried had an available cab. It cost me £7 to get there. Unfortunately, he couldn't wait for me so I had to ask the surgery to call me another cab to get to work.

This one cost me £11.

For the exact same distance.

I miss Co-op Taxi. I really, really do.

More news from the cat breeder:

No matter where Tolly is when the fridge door is opened…he is there before the fridge door is closed! So when he is with you and you can't find him…just open your fridge and he will appear!

Honest to god email I got today:

Dear All,

Please be aware that it is not wise to lay or fall asleep in the meadow
long grass on campus as there is the danger of being run over by the
lawn mower.

There was a near miss earlier and luckily due to the grounds maintenance
chaps awareness the person was seen in time and a serious accident
avoided. Please look for other solutions to keeping cool that will not be as
potentially dangerous.

Your cooperation in this would be appreciated.

Regards
Facilities Management

I've updated my Amazon wishlist. There are a few Delia Smith cookbooks that I'm drooling over :)

Damn!Damn!Damn!

If you're seeing a list with CDs and DVDs, that's not it. My wishlist only has books, and 8 of those are cookbooks by Delia Smith.

Craptabulous.

Edit 2: This link seems to work properly, so ignore the one above:

CHICAGO, June 28 (UPI) — Formal attire for dogs has been a hot item at boutiques as more people include Fido in their weddings, the Chicago Tribune says.

Male dogs have been showing up at nuptials as ring bearers in formal black tuxedoes, and female dogs have been spotted in white mini-gowns and colorful bridesmaid dresses. Wedding shop owners say more single people feel adding their pet to the service is acceptable.

“Couples don't have children, but they do have a dog, so it only makes sense that they would stand up in their wedding,” Sheila Spitza, co-owner of the Wet Nose Pet Spa, in Geneva, Ill., told the newspaper. There have even been formal ceremonies for canines tying the knot as bride and groom.

“Who's to say what's right or wrong? Everyone has their own level of eccentricity,” Spitza said.

An apparel designer in San Antonio says his wedding clothing for dogs has really taken off, with one of two inquiries a week.

I wonder if I can get that in cat-size…

I'm worried about the girl these days. She's going through a rough patch, and key phrases that always make my back shiver have reared their ugly head again. Not good, not good at all :(

Give her some love.

I know I will.

I've finally updated my comics archive with strips that I'd been collecting for a while now.

A few that I need to point out:

I love “Get Fuzzy”. It's what Garfield should have become a looooong time ago instead of staying in the same old ruts.

These ones are rather appropriate regarding Katy and I:

This one is for a particular person on my friend's list. You know who you are:

And finally, this one is for anybody who's ever taken LJ a bit too seriously:

Enjoy!

I've had the base image in a folder on my desktop for the longest time and I've finally gotten around to doing something with it :)

Meet the Luther Burger, also known as the doughnut burger. It's a bacon cheeseburger in a Krisky Kreme doughnut.

It is estimated that it has about 1000 calories, and contains 45 grams of fat.

And people wonder why they have to make extra-large crematoriums for fat assed people these days…

The invitations are going out today, huzzah! huzzah! I had to increase the postage 2 times to the ones going to Canada, but hey, them's the breaks and at least now I know they're on their way :)
