Looking for roommates – take 2

Posted on February 17, 2004 By admin

Hello Montreal

I'm looking for roommates. I currently share a 3-bedroom apartment near Snowdon metro. Currently, a third of the rent, with phone, utilities, cable (tv and high-speed internet) is 360$. Rent might be going up a bit, but not extravagantly so. It's the upper floor of a duplex. Fridge and stove are mine, and I might be buying my roomie's washer-dryer pair. One of my roommates is moving in with her boyfriend, and the other wants to go at it alone, after having had roommates for the last 6 years.

I'm saving up to buy a condo in a few years, so this deal is too good to pass up, given the outrageous rent prices these days, and I really hate moving. Hence, I'm looking for roommates. For the first time in years, all of my friends are staying put and aren't doing their usual apartment shuffle, so I thought of asking on LJ.

I'm a bioinformatics consultant in my late twenties. Fairly quiet, I spend most of my days at the office and most of my nights cooking, watching TV and reading. No wild parties, no major insanity. I'm looking for someone to share the rent and maintain a cool living environment.

Interested parties, please just leave comments and I'll get in touch with you.

What I did today

Posted on February 17, 2004 By admin

I slept very badly last night. That's an understatement. I didn't sleep last night. A bunch of little worries, job, finances, love life, apartment and a partridge in a pear tree, conspired to make me so tense that I woke up at every moment of the night. So wound up was I this morning that I had to take advil to get rid of the knot in my back and shoulders. I really need to look into a place that offers shiatzu at a reasonable price. So anyway, since I didn't have anything mission-critical at work today, I decided it would be better to stay here and catch up on my sleep than go to the office and be a zombie all day.

Even then, I did get some work done today. A client called for a meeting on wednesday, I got caught up on some email and I put the last touches that I could on a document I'm working on. That was secondary to the main goal of taking a few naps on my futon. It's getting old, but it's still surprisingly comfy.

In the afternoon, I watched some muppets episodes, chatted a bit, and basically did nothing. Put my brain on pause. It felt good.

Heehee, it's been a while since I spent a night like this. I just spent the last 5 hours chatting online. A big chunk of that was with Nw. I swear, my god, the woman has the loveliest eyes I've ever seen. She was on her webcam for a good portion of the chat, and it was so funny. I could see her reactions to my posts. She's so… alive. For a while, when we were talking about her panties, I was making up the most outlandish shit, just to see her laugh. She has facial expressions that really convey emotion, and most of it is bubbly, contagious laughter.

I've told her once, and I'll probably do so again, but she's as close to the perfect woman for me that I've met in a long time. She's a bright, beautiful, cynical redhead with beautiful eyes. She's also stubborn, neurotic and has troubles with her self-esteem, yet she still manages to pull all of that in an endearing way. There's only one small detail that needs to be addressed: she's not attracted to me (she told me). The devil is always in the details :P

Oh well, for now, I can still flirt with her. It's really fun, as we both know that it's only light teasing with no emotional attachment on either part (except a bit of lust for me – the woman is gorgeous). I think she could well become another Sparrow. It's really easy to talk to her, and I like that. A lot.

After that, I talked a half-hour with a new person from LL, so we'll see where that leads.

On that note, I'm off to bed. Good night.
