Happiness is a big crowbar

Posted on May 16, 2004 By admin 29 Comments on Happiness is a big crowbar

Today was a semi-productive day. I say semi because I only did half of what I wanted to do. The day started on a very high note, with an empty bladder, a mug of fresh coffee and a slice of mom's apple pie, and a 2h conversation with [info]raspberrysalmon and [info]eniran. Much insanity ensued, some of which will find its way on here in a little bit. When we finally parted ways, eniran came over for chocolate chip pancakes and a trip to ikea. I remembered that I had to get rid of some translation crap for work, but once that was done, we headed off to rona for some tools required to rip chunks out of my kitchen.

Ikea was a bust, as they'd run out of the kitchen island I wanted to get (they'll have it in stock for next weekend). We got back to my place and tried to find the best way to rip out the ugly cramped benches in the breakfast nook. It's a good thing the people who built this apartment were idiots, because otherwise I'd have been in trouble. Their philosophy: why use only one nail when 17 will do? There were nails everywhere, hence the fact that happiness is a strong crowbar. Nothing makes you feel more manly than a hunk of cold-forged steel in your hands!

We got both benches out with a minimum of fuss. Dear lord, could there be more paint?!?! Now I know that it's a tradition in Montreal to just slap a fresh coat of pain on top of the old one every few years, but geez, there was a good 3-4 mm of paint holding those things to the walls. That might not sound much, but that's close to half a centimeter, and yes, that's a lot of paint. I'm going to have to do some post-op work though. Ripping out all of those nails left holes in the walls, and I'm going to have to fill that with some plaster. I'm also going to have to sand down the edges where the old paint met the benches because there's a significant height difference because of all that paint. All in all though, it won't be that bad, and now we don't have the ugly benches :D

just checked… not exactly the same kitchen island i've got, but very close.
    hmmm.
“kitchen island”… conjures up interesting pictures. My very own private island, with palmtrees and a jungle and a huge kitchen right in the middle of the jungle (with a convenient foot path leading there, of course!), with open fires (what do you mean, no open fires in a forest?!?) and dancing shadows on rocks (now don't ask me where the rocks came from in the middle of the jungle) and people cooking for my friends and me…
and pathophysiology books that grow on trees… ARRRRRGH!!! NO!!! WAIT!!!
    ….damn.
why do i always have to spoil my own fantasies?
anyway. anybody here wanna join me on Kitchen Island?
    cooks are welcome, too.

*waves hand in the air* I'll gladly join you and I can cook too :D

I'll join if man-slave joins… he is a wonderful cook. Can there be a small group of Amazons living in your jungle? Pweeze! *drools at the possibilities*

  6. talisker says:
    May 17, 2004 at 1:58 pm

You can join, but only if you keep to the amazons. I don't mind cooking for you all though.

I suppose I could keep to the sexy strong ladies *sighs* ;P

Yes, but remember that amazon warriors usually lop off one boob to be better warriors. I'm keeping the hale and healthy girl for me :D

  9. eniran says:
    May 17, 2004 at 2:09 pm

Only the archers do that… we'll just have sword weilding Amazons.

  10. talisker says:
    May 17, 2004 at 2:11 pm

Ah, then that's fine then. You play with the Amazons, I'll play with [info]raspberrysalmon.

Pleasure doing business with ya :P Just try and keep the noise down at night. An open jungle isn't the most soundproof of places, and I know your proclivities :P

And not that I'm complaining about your online presence – far from it – but shouldn't you be studying? :P

  20. raspberrysalmon says:
    May 17, 2004 at 2:39 pm

oh, i've got one of my books on my lap – not that i'm looking at it a lot.
i'm hoping for some kind of osmosis, i guess.

  21. talisker says:
    May 17, 2004 at 2:44 pm

if you're hoping for osmosis, your lap isn't the best place to put a book, unless you plan to write your exam with your … never mind :P

bah. the blood will transport the knowledge into my brain.
hope it can pass the blood-brain barrier, though.

  24. talisker says:
    May 17, 2004 at 3:01 pm

yes, but if you put a book on your head, you have gravity coming into play as well, not just osmosis!

  25. raspberrysalmon says:

  26. talisker says:

Yay flowers!!! :D Can they be silk flowers? That way, they won't make me sneeze, and more importantly, I can keep them for ever and ever :D

  27. raspberrysalmon says:
    May 17, 2004 at 3:06 pm

    oh.
    dear.

we'll have to find an anti-allergenic jungle.

  28. talisker says:
    May 17, 2004 at 3:12 pm

Actually, considering that is only a fantasy, I can have my cake and eat it too. Let them be real flowers :D
