One down, one to go

Posted on May 21, 2004 By admin 42 Comments on One down, one to go

Had my first decent date in months tonight.

Snuck out of the office tonight to meet Michelle at Hurleys. She's a nurse at the Jewish, 5'10″, blond, blue eyes, very curvy – she has meat on her bones – but not chunky. She's cute! Had a pint at Hurleys, and conversation was ok. We were both hunry, so we went to Bishoku across the street. She told me she loved‡ sushi, but was only experienced in shops at the mall for take out. Man, was she in for a treat :) She trusted me to order for her, so I got the classics (no, I didn't get anything nasty – though she did make a face at the soft-shelled crab, which she liked after having tasted). Dinner went well, with funny conversations flowing at a good clip.

At one point, [info]eniran calls. She's at a sex shop, because I asked her to go pick up the gift I'm sending [info]raspberrysalmon. For those of you who don't know it, it's a long story. Don't ask. She tells me the exact make and model isn't available, and starts listing a whole bunch of possibilites and that I need to choose, cause she doesn't want to buy the wrong thing (even though I have full confidence in her purchasing abilities). At this point, I'm having dinner in a nice restaurant, with a lovely girl I just met for the first time less than one hour ago, and I'm trying really, really hard not to laugh too loudly… Anyway, Michelle asked me what that was about, and I basically blamed it all on Eniran†.

After dinner, we took a walk to my office (to pick up my laptop – I needed to do a bit of work tonight) and then to Metro Video (she bought The Emperor's new groove, I bought Muppets from space – we have similar tastes in movies, btw). By that time, it was pouring rain outside, and she needed to go to bed early because she has an early shift tomorrow. All in all, a decent night :)

Now I'm home, gotten most of my work done (but my laptop is acting all bitchy), and realized that I have a shitload of stuff to do tomorrow:

– I need to buy a birthday card for my dad
– I think I'm double-booked for lunch, and I'll have to look into that
– I need to make and print out the DVD covers for the stuff I'm sending Tia
– I need to see Eniran before I have my date to pick up the thingie
– I need to make dinner reservations for my date (big d'oh! on that one)
– I need to bring my laptop and earphones, and call [info]mekez to confirm our train trip

… and I need to get some actual work done, and I'm also sure I'm forgetting something… sigh, can't wait for the weekend!

† I called her and told her this later on. She said: “oh, of course, no problem, I'd have done the same thing” :D

And again, I'm sorry… I didn't remember you were on a date last night. But you forgot to mention to the rest of them that she was in the washroom for most of the convo. And you can always blame any stupid thing on me, just remember to tell me you did so after the fact, so I can corroborate your story.
Anyways… I'll hand you the gift tonight… in public.. in front of Dusty ;D

The operative words being “for most of the…”. I still had to explain why I was giggling and red as a beet :) But again, no harm done, and thank you *big hug*.

As for tonight and Dusty, go right ahead :) I don't think anything can phase that girl :D

Well, at least she hung around after the fact. There are worse things that could happen on a first date…. choking on rice, having the girl's best friend tag along, meeting the parents (which, by the way, have all happened to me)… consider yourself lucky that all you had was a little blushing and some explaining about a weird friend.

And hey, maybe Dusty has the same one at home, and can tell you how much she likes it.

    Worse things that could happen:
    – she's ugly as sin (not that I'm vain, or any sort of beauty queen, but one was SERIOUSLY ugly)
    – she's as dumb as a sack of hammers
    – she never shows
    – she brings her roommate, her roommate's kid, and her roommate's kid's best friend.
    – she made plans right after your date, in case it was boring and wanted to leave early.

All of which happened to me :)

The other thing is if she has no sense of humour… that's like death for me. I made fun of myself after triping over my feet on a date last year, and she didn't even crack a smile.

  6. talisker says:
    May 21, 2004 at 2:48 pm

yes, you'd mentioned that. That has to suck.

  7. eniran says:

Well you know me… I am all about the funnies, and if the girl doesn't even crack a smile… obviously we didn't have a second date.

Yes, we did.. and no, we didn't defile the present :D

  22. sbourge says:

Sometimes I do… but in the case discussed here, I guess I must have been trying to be nice to you and get you some excitement, you're not gonna blame me for being nice to you! :D

  23. eniran says:
    May 21, 2004 at 9:28 pm

  25. eniran says:

Ow! I can feel the girl smacking me from here just for thinking that.

I'll let Richard explain it once he's seen it…. I will say two things, it's not as big as mine, and it's pink (ewwwww)

Quote of the day

People whose concept of ancient history is the first series of Star Trek may be treated with patience, because it's usually not their fault they were reduced to getting their education from school.
