Big decisions on a slow day

Posted on August 9, 2004 By admin 8 Comments on Big decisions on a slow day

I am getting old.

I woke up this afternoon (yes, afternoon, seeing as I went to bed at 4) all fucked up, mentally and physically. Mostly physically. Last night was… mokay. Had some very fun moments (with cute blonde), a rather weird moment (when cute blonde remembered me from the last time I was there – in january!), and lots of laughs. [info]emjayne was on fire last night, with comments about 80s retro whores in fishnet, full-body jerk-offs and giving prospective club patrons her professional opinion :) I'd have stayed a bit longer at the club, but the others weren't having as good a time as I was, and I didn't mind leaving with the gang to go and meet up with friends of MJ. Sadly, I didn't get [info]ashre79 a lap dance. I think she was weirded out by the whole experience :(

That's where the evening kinda went downhill, IMHO. We got to a little dive of a bar with way too loud music and not enough breathing room. Now I know I'm an old fogey when I realize that my “scene” is the upstairs of a quiet irish pub… eh. MJs friends were a no-show, so we went for food and then headed home. I had a friend fry that did not go over well with my stomach – and I've been kinda burping it ever since. Which brings me to the decisions.

My body is a mess. I just turned 29 and, if I continue on this course, I will not make 30. My cardio is shot, my blood pressure is high, and my stress levels are through the roof. I need to take care of what I eat, in smaller portions. I need to exercise. That last one will be a BITCH!

So… sigh. Starting on monday, I will cut back on the portions that I eat. No more pop. No more salty, fatty snack foods. I will renew my YMCA membership. I need to get my body back in shape… The fact that I'm stressed over the fact that I'm out of shape is making me physically ill. Isn't that a bitch.

Yeah. The next time I see Azin, he's going to get a serious lashing. (whip sound effect) I saw maybe 5 or 6 of his friends at Korova, but didn't know 4 of 'em well enough to say hi, and the others were drunk off their gourds. I liked the place a lot, but am also a fan of the quiet pubs.

I owe you a beer, birthday boy, I had no idea you wanted to stay at the club for a while longer, you should have said something! :) Us gals tend to get a little jittery and clueless around that much exposed female flesh combined with american/ontarian testosterone…

As for my being 'on fire', just you wait til you see me drunk! (very very rare)

Hey, no worries about the club. I know Em wasn't having that good a time, so I didn't mind leaving early. I can always go back some other time :P

Question for you. Do you want to be my lunchtime walkies buddy for the upcoming little while? I was talking to roommate last night and came to the conclusion that taking a 30 minute walk every day would probably be a better way to start getting back into shape. If I go back to the gym now, I'll just be bitter and will end up paying for something I don't use. So what say you?

I think that walking is a highly under-rated form of exercise. I stopped jogging this year after my ankles and knees started protesting most painfully. I've taken to walking at least half an hour everyday and have noticed a definite improvement over the summer. Haven't lost much weight, but am sleeping better, feeling better, and can see the difference when I try on clothes from last fall :)

I'd love to join you for a lunchtime walk, but can only do this once or twice a week (say Tuesdays and Thursdays).

I'm sorry Em wasn't having such a good time. Perhaps she'll enjoy Hurley's?

T&T sounds fine :) Thing is, I just want/need a bit of help to start the routine. Once I'm in the groove, I can prolly keep at it myself. But starting… will demand a bit of willpower.

And with more of the supporting. I've never felt better than now, working at hard manual labour 32 hours a week.

Quote of the day

Sam Vimes could parallel process. Most husbands can. They learn to follow their own line of thought while at the same time listening to what their wives say. And the listening is important, because at any time they could be challenged and must be ready to quote the last sentence in full. A vital additional skill is being able to scan the dialogue for telltale phrases such as "and they can deliver it tomorrow" or "so I've invited them for dinner?" or "they can do it in blue, really quite cheaply."
