As much fun as you can have with your clothes on

Posted on June 1, 2005 By admin 15 Comments on As much fun as you can have with your clothes on

I've just finished putting the second coat of mahogany stain on the tabletop zen garden I'm making myself. It will look kick-ass, if I do say so myself.

I like these little creative projects I give myself. They make me feel creative and manly at the same time (it's the powertool aspect of the thing).

I want a shed.

sokay, you couldn't know :) Just to put this conversation on the right track, I want:

    a drill press
    an air hammer
    a table saw
    a mitre saw

I'm seriously addicted to antique renovation shows here (they have one called restoration man that's droolworthy) and DIY shows. rawr!

I'm gonna start out slow by getting the essentials, like a dril. I don't own one, but I have 20 screwdrivers!

    Drill Press?.

Out here in Canada, we call this contraption a Press Drill.

To operate an air hammer (Nail Driver) you need a compresor. Mind you, there is one on the market for outdoor use that runs on a cartridge of butane and a battery. Noisy, as it fires a shot every time you drive a fastener.

Table saw. Usefull if you have a need for it but one's must always be cautious as they have a tendency to eat fingers. Always use a push stick as it can be replaced easily and doesn't need stitches and constructive surgery like a hand.

Scrool Saw. Handy, but you must be patient or replace the blade often. As a matter of fact, there are some foot powered, but the best one are variable speed controlled by your foot.

AK-47. used intensively to clear a path in a crowd. Permits required for possession and use in some countries.

yes, father, and I always look both ways before crossing the street and I never talk to strangers and I always chew my food before swallowing.

    you worry too much.

I don't have the workbench – I only have a two toolchests and a few sundry items. I don't have the room to get a proper craft area setup.

    an air hammer
From previous entries, I deciphered this to be a pneumatic hammer. Wonderful!

    a drill press
    a table saw

Inherited a Shipsmith from my father. Versatile (drill press, lathe, disk sander, table saw); Cumbersome (requires set-up for each function, must think ahead in planning one's work).

    a mitre saw
    Want!

I do have a radial-arm saw which may function as a mitre saw. Quite handy for making photograph frames and such.

I am presuming you already have the work bench. Often overlooked as one of the most important tools in the shop.
