And now for something completely different

Posted on June 14, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on And now for something completely different

The evil frenchman known as [info]sbourge dropped in last night in his month-long traipse across France and England. Much laughter ensued. Interesting fact: I can get into Katy's purple teddy, but it doesn't fit me well. Do with that mental image as you wish.

Quote of the day

Posted on June 14, 2005June 7, 2016 By admin 3 Comments on Quote of the day

When asked 'what's wrong?' or 'how was your day?', I will frequently respond with a low and mournful wail of 'ducks', and occasionally a fit of angst-ridden quacking. You know it's been a bad day when I manage to make 'quack quack quack' sound like the gothiest goth poetry that ever gothed a goth. This usage of the word 'ducks' comes from the phrase 'nibbled to death by ducks', signifying a day on which nothing went really wrong, but lots of little things conspired to drive me out of my banana tree. Unnervingly, this is starting to catch on with people who aren't me, thus proving that the English language really needs a word for 'many small but irritating things have conspired to make me want to lay waste to all things, burn the houses of the infidel, and salt the earth behind me to ensure that they will not soon rise to challenge me again'

Bleeeeargh

Posted on June 12, 2005 By admin 17 Comments on Bleeeeargh

Pity me, for I have the debilitating illness known as man flu. I woke up with it yesterday, but it was only a tickle in my throat then. I spent the afternoon in Peterborough with Katy – she had to work and I tagged along – but as the day wore on, it got worse. It's now painful to swallow. Joy.

I had a reasonably fun day though. I got to pet some owls.

I also found a shop that sells a ton of Guiness swag. I'll have to get some for Sara for xmas :D

On a completely different note, I'm a geek. Whenever I get a SMS on my phone, a Dalek yells “EXTERMINATE!”

On a final note, me ears are alight.

Keep your various body parts crossed

Posted on June 10, 2005 By admin 7 Comments on Keep your various body parts crossed

I'm testing the loader code I've been working on for the past week. For the past 28 minutes, java has been using 100% of my CPU and about 500MB of RAM to do its number crunching. If all goes well, in just over an hour and a half, it'll be done. If all doesn't go well, it'll blow up in 1:28 hours….

Update: it's now later and, as expected, it blew up. What's annoying as hell is that it blew up somewhere unexpected, not where I wanted to test it!!! GAH!

2nd update: Ahem, I rock. I've just increased my code performance by 1000fold. Instead of taking 17s to parse 50 records, it now takes 15ms. Everything is now safe and sound and loaded in the database. I am a happy bunny.

Random bits of fluff

Posted on June 9, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on Random bits of fluff

Item the first: My allergies are making my life miserable at the moment. I'm sneezing and sniffling, I'm dead sexy to look at. I've started taking benadryl on a regular basis again. You gotta love first generation antihistamines. They're as subtle as a shotgun, you have to take 'em every 6 hours, they make you a bit loopy, but da-yum, they work great!

Item the second: While I was getting a coffee this morning, the guy behind me was humming the crazy frog/axel F ringtone. I wanted to bitchslap him.

Item the third: I bought this to stop my epipen from rattling around in my bag and to have a convenient way to carry it when i'm just wandering about instead of stuffing it in my back pocket. I'm also impressed with british mail. I ordered it day before yesterday online and it was in my work mailbox this morning.

Item the fourth: This item intentionally left blank.

Item the fifth: lots of big changes happening these days, all of them for the better. More on this later.

Cause my sweetie says I'm "it"

Things you enjoy, even when no one around you wants to go out and play. What lowers your stress/blood pressure/anxiety level? Make a list, post it to your journal… and then tag 5 friends and ask them to post it to theirs.

– cuddling with the Katy
– reading
– cooking
– watching antique/auction shows on TV (Flog it! Antiques Roadshow and Restoration man beign current favs)
– doing stuff with my hands
– lounging on the couch with a hot drink and nothing to do

I reach out and touch: [info]blacksquiggles,[info]kaliko_mel,[info]pretentiousgit,[info]la_tatie and just to see if he'll play, [info]mekez

Quote of the day

The question seldom addressed is *where* Medusa had snakes. Underarm hair is an even more embarassing problem when it keeps biting the top of the deodorant bottle.
