Really not impressed

Posted on August 17, 2005 By admin 12 Comments on Really not impressed

I'm really REALLY not impressed with the British medical establishment.

Her operation was cancelled. She was at the hospital, waiting to get it done when the docs come in and say, well, we have to cancel it for today. They overbooked the operating room; no more time for you. So sad, really, sorry. Come back in 3 weeks.

How unprofessional and simply idiotic is that???

She had already rearranged her work schedule for sick leave – now that's completely shot out of the water and it's going to be a hassle she doesn't need to sort it out. What's more important though is that she's been stressing about this for weeks now and she doesn't need shit like this.

*long-distance hugs to my sweetie*

There's more managers in the NHS than there are doctors at the moment. They set nearly impossible targets (given the actual space/staffing available), which means that the hospitals have to try and pack in as many operations per room/doctor/day as possible.

Then if there's complications with one operation or otherwise timing problems things like this happen, because there's no leeway in the scheduling. My mum's a nurse, and she complains about this sort of thing all the time.

The NHS is all very well and good for minor stuff but I wouldn't ever go without health insurance.

And now I'll stop, before I rant all over your journal. :)

Oh, and before I forget, congrats on the publication!

This sort of things appends frequently here in the Belle Province, except they will tell you that you can't have an operation after you have spent at least two days in the hospital…

Quote of the day

The Patrician was a pragmatist. He never tried to fix things that worked. Things that didn't work, however, got broken.
