Growing up

Posted on September 20, 2005 By admin 12 Comments on Growing up

Katy and I went to see a house yesterday.

As in, seeing-for-interest-in-purchasing.

As in, man, I'm getting old.

The house is ok. It needs some TLC paint-wise, and the kitchen needs to be redone, but it has lots of potential and ain't that expensive. I'm tempted, and so is Katy. We've started talking to mortgage advisors to see what the costs are and how much we can borrow. Apparently, even though I make a damn good salary at the EBI, the fact that I'm a foreigner and that I'm not paying income tax in the UK will be a problem. Meh, we'll see what happens.

In the meantime, if you're curious about the house itself, have a look at it here.

I like it, but looking at the dimensions of the rooms again… aren't they a little small for the price, even though you are in Cambridge?

you pay a premium for space in cambridge. most of the properties are small, old victorian cottages/terrace houses.

makes house hunting for the poor a pain in the arse.

    *hugs*

it's not big. Not at all. But it's average for the UK. Put it this way. My Montreal apartment would easily cost 300K+ for my apartment alone. The house would probably go for half a mil).

Well, I knew the property values were way higher… but dude.

    I can imagine.

Believe me, I know. When Darren was visiting, he thought we were getting the best deal for our place in the Pointe. It was a pretty good deal, but I think he was paying the same for a bachelor the size of a stamp as we were paying for the whole apartment.

Quote of the day

"Sometimes I really think people ought to have to pass a *proper* exam before they're allowed to be parents. Not just the practical, I mean."
