That one thing you wish you could do…

Posted on January 10, 2006 By admin 4 Comments on That one thing you wish you could do…

I recently ran across a video I'd seen a few weeks ago. It's a latvian dude freerunning across an urban landscape. There's something about it that seems so… alive. Dangerous as hell, and his body will be getting its revenge at him in a few years, but see? that's rationality and negativity talking. I wish I could do that. I wish I could leave all my cares behind and just run. Then reality sets in, and I realize that I'm desperately out of shape, afraid of heights and would probably kill myself at the best or end up quadraplegic at the worst. But still I dream.

Then you should rent/see the french movie Yamakasi. It's far from a great movie, but it's not bad, well it's a Luc Besson's movie (my favorite film maker). It's that movie that set the trend for the nuisance they call “parkour” (it's somehow popular here in the “Métropôôôle”.

Would you like if hyped out kids (on adrenalin mostly, since you need all of yours cognitive functions to do that sort of things) jumped out of nowhere in front of you in the streets or on your rooftop (at home or at work).

Ok, some of them have rules and respect others and only run on public ground, but there's a lot of them who jump everywhere they please on private proprieties and respect nobody.

Like everything else, it only takes one bad apple in a bucket to give the apple tree a bad rep…
