Expensive weekend!

Posted on August 15, 2011August 15, 2011 By admin

What did we do this weekend? We spent MONEY!

We went to Costco to replenish out supply of dry goods and cleaning products (£200)
We went to Ikea to buy some storage container for Bean’s arts and crafts supplies and steps for him to use in the bathroom. Of course, we left with may more shit than that (£90)
We went to Scottsdales for our regularly scheduled Sunday lunch outing. That’s always costly :) (£100)
We bought a new laptop, because the old one is finally on its last legs (£315)

So yeah.

Ouch.

It’s a good thing we don’t have many weekends like this.

To be honest though, the Costco outing is actually saving us money in the long run because we plan to buy stuff that’s generally 1/3 to 1/2 cheaper than what we’d pay at Tesco in our weekly grocery bill. I also need to point out that the laptop lasted surprisingly longer than I expected it to, considering that the screen is only hanging on by one hinge, the battery hasn’t worked in months, the CD cover plate got ripped off and the whole front panel/keyboard is about halfway off the laptop. I’m impressed with the build quality of the thing, considering that I don’t remember the number of times it’s been pushed/fell off the back of the sofa.

Quote of the day

Sam Vimes could parallel process. Most husbands can. They learn to follow their own line of thought while at the same time listening to what their wives say. And the listening is important, because at any time they could be challenged and must be ready to quote the last sentence in full. A vital additional skill is being able to scan the dialogue for telltale phrases such as "and they can deliver it tomorrow" or "so I've invited them for dinner?" or "they can do it in blue, really quite cheaply."
