The cynicism, it burns

Posted on July 31, 2020August 3, 2020 By admin

Critics denounced the timing of Trump’s election comments as a distraction that came amid the disastrous economic report and hours ahead of the funeral of the revered civil rights and voting rights leader Congressman John Lewis. It also coincided with the preparations for a retreat by federal law enforcement agents from Portland, Oregon.

Running

Posted on July 29, 2020July 30, 2020 By admin

Since the gym is still closed, I’ve started running to try and get some sort of exercise when I’m working from home. I’m not a fast runner, but at least my pace is consistent. I’m working on increasing my distance now. I can do 2k without problem, and today I added an extra lap, up to 2.4k. I’m going to try and get to 5k by the end of the year.

Also note the pasty whiteness of the legs that rarely see the light of day.

Plague-free (so far)

Posted on July 22, 2020 By admin

Took the opportunity offered from work to get an antibody screening test for covid-19. The possible outcomes were either no exposure, exposed and infectious or exposed and no longer infectious. So far, I haven’t been exposed at all – with the caveat being the 5% false positive/negative rate and if I’ve been exposed within the last 72 hours, it would be too early to detect. Still, good news so far, touch wood.

The classic British pub carpet

Posted on July 22, 2020 By admin

I told Suttipong that I loved his shirt, but that it was also very reminiscent of a British pub carpet. He wasn’t quite sure what that meant, but after a quick Google Image Search, he agreed with me. So did the Irish and English expat colleagues we ran into this morning.

That moment when you have to poke the cat to check if it’s still alive…

And yesterday, while a big black (geriatric) lab was just on the ground beside the sofa:

Bye bye, balcony grass

Posted on July 19, 2020July 20, 2020 By admin

Katy has been getting more and more aggravated by the state of the balcony and finally got to her cats-barfed-on-it-once-too-many stage, so the grass had to go. I’m of mixed feelings. I really did like having the grass on the balcony, but I do have to admit that it was getting a bit abused. We’re on the basic balcony slabs for now, and we’ll see what we can do for the long term. I’m thinking those Ikea square tiles might be a viable option.
