Swimeny Cheeps

*happy sigh*

Spent a lovely evening with the Katygirl. We cooked too much food (hmmm, bisto!) and ate ice-cream profiteroles slathered in melted chocolate. Katy got me a board game and the DVD of Mary Poppins (hence the Chim-Chim-Chimny theme of this post). I got her a silver bracelet† and two cute valentine cards I saw at Chapters. It was a lovely evening, and I get to end it sleeping next to the woman I love. There's nothing else to say, really.

† It's pissing me off to no extent that it's just a *bit* too small :( I'm going to pop by the shop tomorrow to see if they can add a link in it to make it less snug. She genuinely loves it, which is good, but I still feel bad that it's too small, poo. If they can't add a link, I'll take it to my silversmith to have it worked on.

Are you talking to me maaaaaaan?

ASPEN, Colo. Feb 13, 2005 – Cheech and Chong may have joked about marijuana in their movies, but the comedians say they didn't touch the stuff when the cameras were rolling. “We tried one time and we wasted so much film,” said Tommy Chong, recalling a scene in “Up in Smoke.” “We were in the car waiting for the cue, you know. And the camera's rolling and we're sitting there, you know, and neither one of us heard the cue.”

Chong and former partner Cheech Marin appeared together for the first time in 20 years at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival. Chong said he isn't ashamed of introducing millions of Vietnam-era kids to marijuana. “When you think of how many kids died drinking alcohol, I feel I've saved millions of lives,” he said.

Marin said their humor was appreciated by an unexpected group: “Cops were our biggest fans. Because they dealt in what we were dealing with everyday, but in reality, they saw the essential humor and they laughed.” Marin and Chong, who recently completed a nine-month sentence for trying to sell marijuana pipes on the Internet, said they are writing two new films, “Grumpy Old Stoners” and “Lord of the Smoke.”

The scene where Tommy Chong smokes the cockroach that ate his pot still makes me giggle :)

Quiche, and other sundry details

Made quiche last night, and served it with meat pie and chicken pot pie. Hmmm, pie.

In other news, I'm jonesing for LJ comments. I miss the days of comment deluges that kept me entertained for hours. Have I become that bland and uninteresting?

A truly nice day.

*happy toe wiggles*

Just came back from a nice walk in the Botanical Gardens with the Katygirl. We went to eggspectation for brunch, then headed off to Pie IX. Amusing moment of the morning: seeing our grumbly waitress fill up the coffee thermos I'd bought. Ya see, I bought a nice thermos so we could have a warm beverage during the walk (stainless steel, of course, I have to be me :) So anyway, I ask the waitress how much it would cost to fill it up. She says that she'd probably need to charge me the price of 3 cups of coffee, so about 4-5$. She walks away and comes back in a huff with a pot of coffee. Apparently, the manager wanted to charge me 7$, which she found ridiculous, so she gave it to me for free :) I gave her a nice tip.

We had a nice long walk in parc, snow crunching under our feet. The parc changed rather dramatically since last time we went there (for the light show in the Chinese garden, in October). Still, it has its charms in winter. It's really quiet, for one thing.

Katy was uber-wired on caffeine, which is always a scary display to see. At one point, in the metro station, she was rather frightening. I was afraid her face was going to split; she was grinning so widely :)

I've been chastised for not mentioning that my sweetie made some really nice curries last night. She made cauliflower curry and chicken curry, from her mom's recipes. They were a bit on the mild side, but for a first try, a really good achievement. Had them with a nice rose, and some homemade apple crumble. Hmmmmm, pie. The night ended rather abruptly, when she fell asleep while I was making her a chocolate drink, but we made up for lost time today :)

Speaking of the Katygirl, I've been giving her a hand with her job applications. We've sent off her Cv to almost every biology/ecology professor at McGill, Bishops, Ottawa U and Carleton to see if they had openings for a research assistant. Although all of the replies she's gotten have been negatives (mostly for lack of money), they're all positive in the sense that they're praising her background and wishing her luck. Some have mentioned colleagues she might contact, others have said they'd spread her CV around. It's actually a lot more encouraging than in the UK, where they don't even reply if they're not considering you. Wankers :)

Quote of the day

The one positive thing you could say about the bread products around him was that they were probably as edible now as they were on the day they were baked. *Forged* was a better term. Dwarf bread was made as a meal of last resort and also as a weapon and a currency. Dwarfs were not, as far as Vimes knew, religious in any way, but the way they thought about bread came close.
