Why can't I fall in love?

Posted on February 1, 2004 By admin

It seems that all the people I met on LL and have kept in contact with are now paired with people they're completely smitten with. Now don't get me wrong, these are good friends, and I'm really happy for them. At the same time, I'm really depressed, because I'm thinking to myself, why not me… I know it's self-defeating, but I can't help feeling it.

All I want is to have someone to say “I love you” to, and sleep close to at night. That's not too much to ask.

I must be broken.

What a day…

Posted on February 1, 2004 By admin 2 Comments on What a day…

This day was… I don't know how to describe this day. My plan, when I went to bed last night, was to lounge in bed, do some chores, do my groceries, and go out tonight with M. The day started out ok, as I was drifting in and out of sleep this morning, when my cell phone rings. I see on my caller ID that it's M, so I figure that he's asking if I want to go have breakfast, as we often do on the weekend.

That's when the day really went off track. First shock, he tells me Sven is in the hospital. Second shock, he had a brain oedema (swelling due to excess fluid). Now this can mean he has a brain tumour, a brain hemorrhage, or a viral infection. Third shock, he's lost motor control on the right side of his body. By that point, I'm completely awake and have fallen out of bed. Quite literally. Cue to telephone tag to inform all our friends, with promises of keeping them informed as more information trickles in.

I went to see him at the hospital in the early afternoon. He was looking quite well, given the circumstances. According to his wife, he was actually a lot better. From what I saw, he was lucid, was cracking jokes, and he told us he was regaining control and sensation on his right side. He still had a bit of the Jean Chretien smile, but that was the only significant outward sign something was amiss. He told us that the CAT scans he's had so far have ruled out the two nastiest options, so it's most probably a viral infection. The doctors say that he's responding really, really well to the anti-inflammatories and he might even be discharged tonight so he can go sleep at home. He needs to come back to the hospital for the next 2 days for more IV anti-inflammatories, but he's well enough to go home, so that's a very good sign. He has a MRI scan scheduled for Monday, to rule out the possibilities of micro-lesions on the brain, and if that's all clear, I'd imagine he's going to go on a course of antivirals. We don't know if there will be lasting effects, but the doctors seem optimistic.

So, all in all, it's good news. It made me realize something. I've known that guy for 12 years. Our relation right now is not the greatest it's been – there's some strain, mostly due to stupid things done and said in the past year or so – but that's going to change. I've lived and done too much with the guy, and this incident brought all of that to life.

I've been trying to relax all day, and have been mostly successful. Basically, I kept busy. Did my groceries, and a huge pile of dishes. Bought stuff for the superbowl party tomorrow. I cooked a batch of my world-famous pasta sauce, then cooked roast beast with all the trimmings for dinner with my roommate. Watched a bit of TV, and now I'm writing this and going to bed.

I'm a bit blue right now… for the usual reasons I've grown to know and hate.

Whatever, it'll pass.

With apologies to Darby Conley, I couldn't let this one pass up.

I added new flash animations on my website, purloined from basically everywhere on the net. You can now play:

Slap the Ho! Smack the Penguin

or watch the video Got to hustle!!

Also, I made another user icon, that should now be considered in the vote, along with the others. BTW, thanks for the feedback on that :) Here it is:

I'm so proud of myself :)

Teehee. I'm getting good at flirting.

Now I know that's a self-serving comment if I ever heard one, but tonight, I rocked :) I was chatting with someone from LL, who's really cute, funny, but really, really reserved. I've been talking to this woman for almost 3 weeks now. The first few times I tried to invite her to a movie, to coffee, a drink, a walk on the mountain, whatever, it's always… “we'll se”.

A few days ago, I kinda lost it and asked her if I should just stop talking to her cause I didn't have a chance in hell, or something. She said no, she was just really, really careful about meeting people. So I left it at that, and just continued with the occasional chatting.

So tonight, she's online, and we start talking. And for the hell of it, I start flirting a bit. And I ROCKED. I was charming, I was witty, it was coming naturally. It felt GOOD. :) We chatted for something like a half hour. Even if nothing ever happens with said person, at least I know I can flirt with the best of 'em, when the muse strikes me.

Now I just need to find a good muse :)

User picture survey

I'm thinking of changing some of my LJ user icons.

You've already seen:

Tiger eye
Happy Bunny
Sleepy Cat

Since I'm on a free account, and am a cheap bastard, I can only have 3 user pics. The following also caught my eye though:

I like muffins
Duncan
Zoot
Transformer

Which ones would you pick and choose, if you were in my shoes?

"I can't do anything with it, it's not stiff enough"

Posted on January 29, 2004 By admin 5 Comments on "I can't do anything with it, it's not stiff enough"

Just came back from an enjoyable night with [info]eniran. In case I hadn't mentioned it before, she's a great person to be around. She had me laughing all evening. Seeing her in a toy store is something else. She was kind enough to drive me there for an errand I wanted to do.

After that, we had dinner (sushi!) and spent a wonderful hour listening in to other people's conversations, point out badly dressed individuals, and just talking about stuff (mostly naughty things – teehee). After that, we went to Hurleys, for more random chatting, boobie grabbing (just once, but still, it maintains the tradition of boobie grabbing every time I'm there with her and/or with [info]strychnyn) and booze. There was much laughter, which was very therapeutic today.

We ran into a barmaid that served us the last time we had a drink together. She remembered us, apparently we were having a bad night that night :) She was kind enough to drive me home afterwards, so I was able to bring my rice cooker home from the office. I'll be able to practice making sushi so it doesn't taste like paste (I still owe her, her girl, [info]bouste and [info]strychnyn a sushi dinner).

So, I'm full with good food capped off with a nice pint of Bass, I'm home with my new teddy bear (I couldn't resist, he's too cute) and I'm all laughed out for tonight. All in all, a very good way to spend an evening.

Nighters all.

If you make it idiot proof, someone will build a better idiot

Posted on January 28, 2004 By admin

I was having a really bad morning. I'm a bit blue these days. Mostly, it's due to having a lot on my mind right now. Looking for roommates, money, the lack of romance in my life, among others. I just want to thank my friends who spent a part of the morning chatting with me, cheering me up, and making me laugh. That was nice, it hit the spot, and I needed that.

Thank you ladies.

I'll be more enthusiastic about encouraging thinking outside the box when there's evidence of any thinking going on inside it.
