my day – part 2

Posted on May 20, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on my day – part 2

So my day actually ended up getting better. My afternoon meeting lasted a whole of 15 minutes and I managed to get some really good work done, for which I'm happy. I'm actually getting to play with databases and code, so that's good. I got to pet a nice big drooly dog, which is also good, and we finally got our LCD screens for our computers, which is really good, cause that means I won't need to strain my eyes so much to get enough screen real-estate to work efficiently.

Hopefully the night will continue in that direction.

Not having a good day

Posted on May 19, 2005 By admin 1 Comment on Not having a good day

It's not even 9:15 and I can pretty much feel that this day will suck. I slept badly, nearly got run over by a bicycle on my way to catch my shuttle, which was there early. I have a headache and two meetings today.

I am not a happy bunny.

Now that's something you don't see every day

Posted on May 18, 2005 By admin

As I was walking towards the door to get into the building this morning, a duck (a cute little mallard, even) landed in front of me and casually waddled under the stairwell.

I couldn't stop giggling.

Icons galore

Posted on May 18, 2005 By admin 1 Comment on Icons galore

I was going through my website trying to find a file, when I noticed that I had an assload of icons that people might or might not have seen, so I decided to put them all in one massive post. They're behind the cut if you're interested.

[Recipe] Curried sausages and turkey with basmati rice

Posted on May 18, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on [Recipe] Curried sausages and turkey with basmati rice

I cut up 3 pork sausages and 2 turkey steaks and browned them in olive oil. I added a teaspoon of tumeric and a half-teaspoon of cumin. Added one finely chopped onion. Let the onion brown a bit, then add 5 big chopped mushrooms, broccoli flowers and half a yellow pepper (chopped). Let that steam for 5-10 minutes, then add a can of chopped tomatoes and a can of sweetcorn and dump that in an oven dish. Add one cup of hot water (or any stock you have at hand), one cup of basmati rice and cook at 350F for 30 minutes in the oven.

Belated weekend entry

Posted on May 17, 2005 By admin 3 Comments on Belated weekend entry

I realized that I never posted about our adventures on sunday. Katy and I walked to the city center again but brougt the camera this time. We went into a toy shop that has WAY the hell too many monopoly games. I do not understand the british fascination with monopoly. Every major town seems to have its own regional edition. Don't believe me? see for yourself. A lot of the people who were in the open air arts & crafts market were also in the town center market you see pictured. I bought a really nice vase from the pottery merchant.

The large building is Kings College, and the street in front of it is where I plan to spend some money in the near future. There are some really nifty shops thereabouts that I need to investigate further.

I ran into a door, I swear

Posted on May 17, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on I ran into a door, I swear

So far, tonight, I have been heeled in the groin and elbowed between the eyes – all the while, my girlfriend was laughing her pretty little tush off.

at least she cooked me a nice dinner, and cake!, before she started hurting me so it's ok

Grocery update

Posted on May 15, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on Grocery update

I'm a happy convert to internet grocery shopping. Tesco delivered my food promptly at 10:15 with everything I'd ordered being there (with reasonable equivalences – they gave me a jaffa cake twinpack instead of a threepack). The fresh produce was reasonable – the only thing that I'm not happy about is the lemon and the lime I bought, but aside from that, everything is A-ok. My cupboards are full of heavy cans that I didn't need to break my back to carry.

Life is good, and I now have food :D

A day in cambridge

Posted on May 15, 2005 By admin 15 Comments on A day in cambridge

Katy and I went walkies in the city center today. I really, really, REALLY wish I'd bought my camera with me. The colleges are… beautiful, stupendous, mindblowing. I really want to go explore them when I have a bit more time. Shopping-wise, I'm in booze heaven.

The wine store has a wall full of scotch bottles I'VE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF BEFORE! And then I saw it. The bottle I'm enjoying right now. The bottle that freaked Katy out when she saw the price. The bottle that's making me rather tipsy after 2 ounces (remember, this is cask-strength). Oh, and did I mention the cigar? hmmmmm, hedonism is fun once in a while.

There's an outdoor arts & crafts market that's there every saturday on the weekends that I really need to go patronize in the following weeks. There are some framed prints that caught my eye that I want to go buy.

Finally, there's a little indian shop that's chok-full of goodies to tempt the senses and whittle the wallet.

Hmmmmmmmmm!

I'm currently drinking cask strength glenlivet that's only one year younger than I am.

It's like drinking warm, liquid velvet.

Quote of the day

"I meant," said Iplsore bitterly, "what is there in this world that makes living worthwhile?" Death thought about it. "CATS," he said eventually, "CATS ARE NICE."
--Death is obviously not a dog person (Terry Pratchett, Sourcery)
