Measure twice, cut once, delete forever.

Posted on April 1, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on Measure twice, cut once, delete forever.

Nice. In the process of cleaning up my office laptop, I managed to delete all of my london trip pictures. It's not a total loss, as my favourites are on my website, but all the high-res originals are down the drain.

I'm quite proud of myself.

Edit: Good news, Katy has a CD with all the pictures, so I'll get them back in a few weeks :) I'm still the stupid though.

6 months ago today…

Posted on April 1, 2005 By admin 3 Comments on 6 months ago today…

…I picked Katy up at the airport and my life took a turn for the better. Those past 6 months have been the most intense of my life, and I've found myself doing things I'd never believed possible and setting events in motion that will affect my life in ways I can't even begin to understand.

All of this to say: I love you Katy. Happy anniversary. I'll be there soon.

Relationhip hubris

Posted on March 31, 2005 By admin 1 Comment on Relationhip hubris

I'm guilty of trying to interpret what's happening through my eyes instead of the eyes of another; of using my perception to interpret the motives of another, instead of realizing that it's bound to not only not work but he painful at the same time. Worst of all, I'm guilty of not following my own damn advice.

And I'm moving to that place???

Posted on March 30, 2005 By admin 2 Comments on And I'm moving to that place???

Twelve competitors, in cars and caravans, lined up at the start at a track in Bovingdon in England for the race which quickly becomes a destruction derby as the drivers seek to smash away the unwieldy caravans that slow themdown. The old caravans have already been turned into a shell as everything inside them is hacked out before the race.

This was the fifth running of the caravan race and Buck was determined to improve on last year's race. He only ran for two of the 12 laps with his caravan intact. Then the 36 year old haulage contractor smashed away his caravan and put in fast laps dragging just a trailer around behind him.

He said his strategy for the race was “just put your right foot down and go. But I mean there's garbage, there's trash, there's caravans, there's cars, there's smoke, there's dust, everything in the way — it's like a battlefield.”

The crowd enjoyed the spectacle and were probably pleased that they did not have to clear up the mess afterwards.

This explains the a whole lot

About half of the states allow first cousins to marry, according to stateline.org, a research site on state laws.

I'd be curious to see a geopolitical map with the distribution of those states :D

Original insanity here.

Come on people, do the happy dance with me!

Posted on March 29, 2005 By admin 7 Comments on Come on people, do the happy dance with me!

All sorts of good news this morning.

Item le premier:

I just found out that my first month's rent will be reduced by a third. Since I'm taking posession of the apartment on the 11th of april, they're pro-rating my rent from to (You'd assume that since it's 2/3 of a month, it'd be but no. The amount owing is worked out on a calendar month basis. The 11th to 30th April is 20 days inclusive and the amount owing would therefore be 750 x 12 divide by 365 x 20). Makes perfect sense. Ya. Anyway, The paperwork will be sent off in the next few days.

Item le second:

I have just received a call from the British High Commission. At 8:45 on the first day back from a 4-day weekend. Hell must be getting nippy! Thank you loverly lady on the phone!! They confirm that I do not need any special stamp or paperwork. I simply need to get my ass to Heathrow with my passport and my appointment papers to the EMBL and I just mosey on through immigration.

So come on folks, mamba with me!

Quote of the day

The one positive thing you could say about the bread products around him was that they were probably as edible now as they were on the day they were baked. *Forged* was a better term. Dwarf bread was made as a meal of last resort and also as a weapon and a currency. Dwarfs were not, as far as Vimes knew, religious in any way, but the way they thought about bread came close.
