I'm such a dweeb

Posted on June 5, 2004 By admin 4 Comments on I'm such a dweeb

The weekend is here, and this is a good thing. Near the end of the day, I found out that all my weekend plans were shot to hell, which is always fun to learn. I was supposed to go have brunch with Michel tomorrow, but he's gone to Niagara for a few days. Impromptu vacation with his Isa – I wish him fun. Things are going really well for those two, I'm really glad about that. We could have had dinner tonight, but I had eaten a late lunch was uber tired so I took a raincheck for mid next week when he comes back.

Spent a good part of the afternoon writing documentation. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's that. Documentation is the pits, and my brain was leaking out of my ears when 6pm rolled by. Met up with [info]moonlightjoy, who was a bit down in the dumps, for a quick pint before heading home. We had a good chat, which I think did both of us some good (well, it made me laugh, anyway) and then we parted ways. She was going to meet friends at a show, I headed home for a nap.

When I got home, i decided to forego the nap in lieu of a light movie. Since nobody could/wanted to go see HP3, I postponed it for now (cause I really, really hate seeing movies alone and both [info]eniran and [info]moonlightjoy said they wanted to see it, but couldn't tonight). I still felt like a movie though, so I indulged in a Sherlock Holmes flick I bought this week. There are 5 movies in the DVD set, and I watched the first one tonight, The hound of the Baskervilles.

I've always loved Sherlock Holmes (remember the book project), and I've read all the canonical stories, as well as many others. I'm a serious Holmes trivia addict too, so seeing the original movies was so good :)

And btw, Jeremy Brett as Holmes rocks :)

Elementary, my dear Watson :D

This is beyond fucking ridiculous

Ever had to fight with a bank for them to take your money?

That's the situation I'm in right now. I took out two loans to contribute to my RRSPs this year. I took them with the national bank of canada, and they are the preferred partner for Investor's Group (my financial planners). I love my account manager at IG. He's a great guy. Never had a glitch with him. The bank people are fully-qualified idiots. Nimrods of the greatest caliber. Every time I want to pay back something, it's an exercise in pain and stupidity.

I have to waste my time to try and convince them to take my money.

Ahem, fuck that.

The fringe benefit of this is that I now run a DVD club from my apartment. If you can see this list, it means I trust you to let you to borrow one, watch it at your leisure, and bring it back to me. As long as it's noted in the whiteboard in my kitchen, it's all good :P

I want to go see the new HP movie tonight. It's playing at the paramount ( 6:30, 7:00, 7:15, 7:40).

Any takers? I hate seeing movies alone, but I want to see this one.

My lunch meeting

Posted on June 4, 2004 By admin 4 Comments on My lunch meeting

Had lunch with my boss today.

Things went well, actually. We both aired our grievances, and what came out of it basically was we realized we'd had a communication breakdown, a situation we both agreed to work on. Other than that, he's still really happy with my work, which is always a good thing to know.

On a slightly more sobering note, when I asked about the overall state of the company, I was told that our financial situation is precarious, and that this might be our 3-month warning to start putting our CVs back up to date. He's optimistic about the long-term survival of the company, but he was simply giving me a heads up.

Anyway, it was a good lunch overall, and I'm feeling much better about my position in the company, so I'm a happy camper. For now, at least :)

That's a good one…

Oh geez, gimme a f'n break. Quoted from here: Church leaders strike deal to let Prince Charles re-marry

The issue of whether the royal heir can marry a divorcee has vexed constitutional experts for years, since the British monarch is the titular head of the Anglican church and thus officially expected to be beyond moral reproach.

Royalty is nothing more than a bunch of inbreds. Expecting them to be beyond moral reproach is like expecting my lunch to get up and dance the Macarena…

Stumbling around, blindfolded with earplugs…

Posted on June 3, 2004 By admin

Went to have a drink with [info]eniran after work last night. We both kinda needed it, though we didn't stay too long. Went DVD shopping afterwards, where I bought Muppet Treasure Island and Sherlock Holmes Feature Films collection. After that, we went to the post office to pick up a parcel that was waiting for me. After a false start of not going to the right post office (we went to the one where the parcels used to be kept when I was living on EM) and then discovering that the pharmacy near my house has a complete section I'd never even noticed (which contained said postal outlet), I got the bright yellow box containing a quite horrendous fridge magnet (yay!), and this little guy here:

I'm sorely tempted to call him George, but since I can't, his name is officially Rolf.

Ate some pasta goodness, then watched the Muppet movie, chatted a bit and called it a night.
