Trying to get back into the gym groove

Posted on November 26, 2024 By admin

I am coming up to 50 and I’m fat and out of shape. While I’m walking often, my muscle mass has gone down and my body fat has gone up. Yay, unhealthy aging.

So, to fight this, I’ve started going to sports physio and as homework, I need to work out twice a week. I’m starting to get into the rhythm.

So far, I don’t hate it.

What I must’ve looked like

Posted on June 14, 2021June 14, 2021 By admin

So, fact about me: some (many!) songs will make me cry at the drop of a hat. Les Miserables? Waterworks. All of you by John Legend? Floodgates. Love of my life by Queen…. you get the picture, but I digress.

It’s too hot to run right now so I went for a power walk to get some air and VitD. Beautiful sunshine along the lakefront. I’m bopping along to ZZ Top and Van Halen, when boom! Tear song!! Still power walking, still lip singing, bawling my eyes out. Didn’t give two shits. Then Grandmaster Flash and the Wheels of Steel came on, and everything was OK.

Jogging through the tulips

Posted on April 21, 2021 By admin

This year is the 2nd 50th annual tulip festival in Morges (because, you know, last year sucked!). This is what I see when I run through the park these days.

It’s been a journey…

Facebook reminded me that I got my weight-loss surgery two years ago, just after Valentines 2019. Even before then, all the appointments and the prep started in 2018… The results kind of speak for themselves.

Not much left to the imagination

Posted on January 5, 2021 By admin

I bought some more running gear. I already had some, but not enough and I either had to do a load of laundry in between runs or re-wear sweaty stuff. I bought a pair of running tights. Boy, those things don’t leave anything to the imagination. They’re quite comfortable to run in, but you need a certain level of body confidence to leave the flat…

That’s going to leave a mark…

Posted on November 11, 2020November 16, 2020 By admin

I ran the trail this morning. Even though it’s a nice run, I’m always afraid of tripping on a tree root hidden by leaves, or something like that, so I’m always a bit more careful running it.

This morning, I faceplanted in the most stupendous way. It wasn’t in the forest though, it was on the beach. I tripped on something, no idea what, and I cartoonishly got some really good air, then skidded for about a foot in small gravel and seashells.

On my face. As in, spitting out a mouthful of dirt. Fortunately, the only witness was a swan. So I brushed myself off and carried on with my run, with only a few scratches on my face and a bit of road rash on my hand.

On the plus side though, I’m now less than a kilo from my next weight goal achievement :)

10k booyah!!

Posted on October 24, 2020October 25, 2020 By admin

Ran my first 10k! The first 5k was half run, half, quarter pootle, quarter walk because Katy’s knee was playing up, so when she headed home I decided to run the trail for another 5k. With minimal effort, k could already shave about 8-10 minutes from my time, but it’s a start and I’ll take it!!

Longest run yet!

Just need to add 5 laps and I get to my 1st 10k. This is doable!

Am I a runner now?

Posted on September 22, 2020 By admin

So from barely running 3 laps on the track in July, I’m now regularly a 5k (so at minimum 10 laps, plus the walk from the flat to the track as warm up/cool down). Last monday, I did 6.5k. My goal is to work up to the Lausanne 10k next year.

On the plus side, my pace has also slightly increased. I generally do 6′ per km, compared to 6.5′ just a little while ago.

Quote of the day

People whose concept of ancient history is the first series of Star Trek may be treated with patience, because it's usually not their fault they were reduced to getting their education from school.
