Hard at work in the kitchen

Posted on May 27, 2017 By admin

My helpers and I have handmade sausagemeat to then handmake scotch eggs. Very tasty teamwork, and I love the taste of the sausagemeat. I pan roasted fennel seeds, coriander seeds and peppercorns, then added some salt, dijon mustard, nutmeg, onion powder, and a little ground clove. It came out really, really well!

Unexpected discovery

Posted on May 26, 2017May 29, 2017 By admin

Katy and I were walking in Vevey while Bean was doing a waffle-and-compote workshop at the Alimentarium when we came across this. It will require further investigation.

Milking for all it’s worth

On the way back from his scout camp, Bean tripped over a tree root while playing and did a running superman wipeout that ended up with him badly spraining his ankle. X-rays don’t seem to show anything broken, but he can’t walk on it so as a precaution, they gave him a plaster splint. Right now, he’s hobbling on rainbow-colored crutches, generally being in good spirits, but enjoying the extra attention :)

How the scout meeting ended

Katy loves the Swiss scouts. She keeps saying “my brownies were never this fun. All we ever did was play rounders”. It should be noted that, besides his last-minute injury, Bean enjoyed his camping trip and it was the first time in a looong time that the St-George camping weekend didn’t get rained on :)

Date day for old people

Posted on April 30, 2017May 15, 2017 By admin

Had to be split over 2 days because we got too tired last night…

We did manage to sneak in some shopping, some cocktails ? and a movie ? though.

Would you walk up the hill again? Yes, for gin, lesbians and puppy dogs.

We wanted to go to Les Brasseurs to get the burgers ? and beer ? that we missed out on last night before we picked up Ben from his scout camp. Turns out there was a bike rally in town that closed off most of the roads where we wanted to go. That was a big bust…

Ever adaptable, we went to have some perfectly satisfactory tempura ?, calamari and ramen ? (for me) and sushi rolls ? (for Katy).

Even polar bear enjoyed a nice pot of jasmine tea. (Polar bear came along because, as Katy said, the fact that she was having a shit mental health daily didn’t mean he couldn’t have a good time.)

Quote of the day

Sam Vimes could parallel process. Most husbands can. They learn to follow their own line of thought while at the same time listening to what their wives say. And the listening is important, because at any time they could be challenged and must be ready to quote the last sentence in full. A vital additional skill is being able to scan the dialogue for telltale phrases such as "and they can deliver it tomorrow" or "so I've invited them for dinner?" or "they can do it in blue, really quite cheaply."
--(Terry Pratchett, The Fifth Elephant)
