The mulled wine isn’t bad and the cannons are very festively decked.

Cats and boxes

Posted on December 6, 2019December 8, 2019 By admin

Cats love boxes and enclosed spaces. Pavel is a cat’s cat and loves himself a box. This however, is impressive. We’re not sure how it happened, but he did that all on his own. Having said that, it’s the Christmas gift that keeps on giving…

So…. I might have just ordered 2 kilos of squeaky cheese curd

Posted on December 4, 2019 By admin

I’m Canadian. This means that I have a fondness for poutine. It goes with the territory. Unfortunately, getting cheddar cheese curd outside of western Canada has, in the 15 years I’ve lived overseas, proven impossible.

Until now.

I recently came across this little gem of a news article:

Walter Grob, the current owner of the Engelberg cheese dairy, moved from Unterland to Engelberg. After years of hiking in Switzerland and Canada, the young man from eastern Swiss took over the business in 2015 at the age of 24. He produces traditional products in outstanding quality – but always tinkers with something new. Thanks to his innovative strength, he has already launched several new products, such as the Cheddar, and won prizes at the Swiss Cheese Award.

From there, auntie Google provided this information:

Walter Grob
Klosterhof 1, CH-6390 Engelberg
Telefon: +41 (0)41 638 08 88
info@schaukaeserei-engelberg.ch

So I reached out by email.

But got no answer.

Then I reached out by phone.

And got in touch directly with the man himself. And found out that the email reply was written but never actually sent, and since they make cheddar 3 or 4 times a month, I could have as many curds as I wanted. He’s been trying to get the product in stores, but with little success.

But I will get 2kg of freshly made cheddar cheese curds by post next week.

This makes me stupidly happy.

Not my dog goes home today

Posted on December 1, 2019December 3, 2019 By admin

Even though I know that we’re not ready to have one full-time right now, mainly because of the money pit cats we have, I miss having a dog. How can you not love having a giant lump of pure adoration snuggling up to you (then farting and falling asleep and snoring – kind of like when Katy and I first met).

Update: took NMD for a walk earlier today. The plan was to go to the beach to throw her frisbee around. I didn’t expect to see a whole flock of ducks on the beach. That was a bit of fun.

Katy dropped her off at her flat shortly after, to wait for her human to get back home. Unfortunately, a train strike stranded him in France so we went back and took her home for another night.

Not a fan

NMD wasn’t a fan of the Schilliger cooking animatronic bear. Probably one of the few times I’ve ever heard her growl.

The cats have a king-sized bed to sleep on. Where do they sleep? On my jeans.

Not-my-lap-dog

Posted on November 28, 2019 By admin

I was having coffee this morning when Not-my-dog climbed on the sofa with me and flomped on my leg. Apparently, she’s not allowed on the sofa at her place, so she takes liberties (which we’re happy to allow). Katy says that she’s more settled when she stays with us. She looked well-settled this morning. She turned into a lump. Also, she snores.

Unexpected visit from Not-my-dog

Posted on November 26, 2019November 28, 2019 By admin

Not-my-dog’s human had to leave town unexpectedly so we have NMD until Sunday. As you can see, this is highly traumatic for all parties involved.

Well, the cats aren’t super keen but they’re already settling down. They’re getting used to it by now.

I swear I didn’t tuck her in. I just put the blanket on her and she dropped on the beanbag and just sort if settled in for the night.
