It’s been a journey…

Posted on February 16, 2021 By admin

Facebook reminded me that I got my weight-loss surgery two years ago, just after Valentines 2019. Even before then, all the appointments and the prep started in 2018… The results kind of speak for themselves.

So, um, yay?

Posted on December 8, 2020 By admin

The scales tell me I’m 199.96lbs this morning so I’m officially below 200 pounds for the 1st time in… 15 years or so? More? I just wish I could be in a more celebratory mood. But yay me!

That’s going to leave a mark…

Posted on November 11, 2020November 16, 2020 By admin

I ran the trail this morning. Even though it’s a nice run, I’m always afraid of tripping on a tree root hidden by leaves, or something like that, so I’m always a bit more careful running it.

This morning, I faceplanted in the most stupendous way. It wasn’t in the forest though, it was on the beach. I tripped on something, no idea what, and I cartoonishly got some really good air, then skidded for about a foot in small gravel and seashells.

On my face. As in, spitting out a mouthful of dirt. Fortunately, the only witness was a swan. So I brushed myself off and carried on with my run, with only a few scratches on my face and a bit of road rash on my hand.

On the plus side though, I’m now less than a kilo from my next weight goal achievement :)

10k booyah!!

Posted on October 24, 2020October 25, 2020 By admin

Ran my first 10k! The first 5k was half run, half, quarter pootle, quarter walk because Katy’s knee was playing up, so when she headed home I decided to run the trail for another 5k. With minimal effort, k could already shave about 8-10 minutes from my time, but it’s a start and I’ll take it!!

Longest run yet!

Just need to add 5 laps and I get to my 1st 10k. This is doable!

Am I a runner now?

Posted on September 22, 2020 By admin

So from barely running 3 laps on the track in July, I’m now regularly a 5k (so at minimum 10 laps, plus the walk from the flat to the track as warm up/cool down). Last monday, I did 6.5k. My goal is to work up to the Lausanne 10k next year.

On the plus side, my pace has also slightly increased. I generally do 6′ per km, compared to 6.5′ just a little while ago.

Ran my first 5k!

I’m super chuffed and proud of myself. I went from running/walking 3 laps to doing 10 this morning. With the to-and-fro from the flat, that makes a 5k circuit! My average pace is 6’50s/km, which Katy informs me is not bad.

Next step, 12 laps on the course!

Still running

Posted on August 26, 2020August 27, 2020 By admin

Personal best today: 8 laps at constant-ish jogging pace (between 6 and 7 minutes/km). With the to-and-fro from the flat, that’s almost 5k. My goal is to get to a 5k running distance, so that’s 12.5 laps, and I’m aiming to add one lap per week or so.

Moving moving moving

Posted on August 7, 2020August 7, 2020 By admin

In the last two weeks, I’ve consciously tried to move more, and I’ve been able to hit 10k steps pretty much every day. I went running 3x last week and since we’ve had Not-my-dog at home, Katy and I go out for a walk right after dinner every evening. I want us to carry on with that once NMD goes home.

Running

Posted on July 29, 2020July 30, 2020 By admin

Since the gym is still closed, I’ve started running to try and get some sort of exercise when I’m working from home. I’m not a fast runner, but at least my pace is consistent. I’m working on increasing my distance now. I can do 2k without problem, and today I added an extra lap, up to 2.4k. I’m going to try and get to 5k by the end of the year.

"Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions. People die, and nothing changes."
