Oooooooooh!

Posted on October 11, 2004 By admin

British music magazine Q said in its October issue that there's another band that's ready to follow The Pixies' return to the stage: the classic lineup of Pink Floyd. So far though, a rumor is all there is to the story.

Q is the only print source that's even hinting at something in the air. According to the magazine, Floyd, with bassist/lyricist Roger Waters, will play a “series of lucrative shows next year.” To do so, the members would have to set aside 20 years of differences. That includes acrimony left over following Waters' 1986 legal action against his former bandmates. He sued guitarist David Gilmour and drummer Nick Mason to keep them from using the band's name without him. Waters lost. A reunion tour of any significance could generate more than $100 million in gross revenues.

Happiness is a warm toaster

Katy decided I needed a kettle last night, as this appliance was lacking in my kitchen and the presence of such a device would be essential, were she to come back at a future date.

I now have a kettle. And a toaster! Woot, domestic bliss!

We were both kinda knackered last night, so we stayed in and had an early night. I've been told I'm definitively being kept for my cooking, which makes me inordinately happy (yes, I know I have an ego sometimes :P). I made penne carbonara a la Richard last night, to much rave reviews.

Today involves brunch with Stephanie, walkies on Mount Royal, the Oratoire, buying a roast beast for dinner tonight and finally drinkies at Hurleys. Hmmmm, roast beast.

Dinner with the family

Posted on October 9, 2004 By admin

Katy and I are so full we can hardly move. Sooooo good.

After leaving the Hilton, we went to spent the morning at the Museum of Civilization in Hull. It was fun – that museum is always getting new and interesting exhibits. Took lots of pictures – again forthcoming, and again, Katy is in none of them. After wandering the museum for a few hours, we went to see an IMAX movie called Roar: Lions of the Kalahari. I had a few chuckles in that movie, notably one moment involving …sadly, I can't write more as I've been threatened with bodily harm.

We spent a good amount of time wandering around Ottawa also. It's nice to view things through the eyes of someone who's never seen them (ooooh! so pretty!). You get blas when you see things all the time. Wandered around Parliament Hill, Sparks Street Mall, Rideau Canal. Fun, fun, fun.

My mom came and picked us up in Ottawa and we chatted along the ride home, where we proceeded to stuff ourselves with loads and loads of yummy food. There was pig, pie and cheesecake. In a word, GOOD!

We hobbled along after dinner to go see the cabin my folks are building, and on the way back, we had garden tractor rides, teehee!

I'll do my best to get those pictures on line soon, otherwise I have the feeling I shall be on the receiving end of a poke or two.

I have bathtub-envy

Posted on October 8, 2004 By admin 13 Comments on I have bathtub-envy

Katy and I are in Ottawa at the moment. We took the bus yesterday morning (and again, let me reitereate that I do not faff around) and spent the afternoon pushing buttons at the Science and Technology museum in Ottawa. I hadn't been there in ages and though they still have the crazy kitchen, they got rid of a lot of hands-on stuff that I remembered having loads of fun as a kid. Museum done, we came to the hotel. I checked us into the Casino Hilton in Hull for a bit of luxury. Hooah. That bathroom is bigger than my first apartment bedroom! Glrmph.

We had a really nice stroll along Leamy lake (pictures forthcoming), ran into a bunny and a leafblower, discussed interior design and the merits of large bathtubs and non-whorehouse-smelling scented candles. After freshening up, we went and had a nice dinner (hmmmm, calamari and a big slab of dead cow for me, leek and gouda soup and pork chops for Katy). It was funny. Katy felt underdressed (though she looked quite cute in her Felix the cat top), but I really couldn't care less. This isn't Monte Carlo, this is Hull. Though dressing up is fun occasionally, I'm a jeans and t-shirt man at heart and I'm comfortable with that. Dinner was GOOD! Lots of serious and not-so-serious talk, followed by a port and a cigar in the lounge. It's been a while since I indulged my hedonistic side, and this occasion warranted a bit of excess :) It's also good to know what I can bribe her parents with so they like me when I go visit her :D

Came back up to the room, slighly tipsy but in good spirits and I'm not writing more about what happened last night. Let your pervy minds have a field day. I will, however, let you know that I want that bathtub.

We made it outside!

Posted on October 6, 2004 By admin

It was touch and go for a while (mostly touch), but we made it outside today. Went to the McCord museum (meh), but had a blast at the botanical garden. The lanterns in the chinese garden are lovely. We made a little detour at Michel and Isabelle's place to pick up the digicam – pictures forthcoming – before heading out and getting lost in the wilderness. Quote of the morning: I'm sorry, I can't take you seriously with those boxers on.

It's a lovely way to spend an evening. Now, we're back home and waiting for dinner to cook. Starving!
