The joys of parenting – continued

Posted on June 7, 2011June 7, 2011 By admin

What a way to start the day. My Bean, who hasn’t gone for a poo in over 24 hours, decided that the perfect time to go for a massive dump was on the bus on the way to work this morning. Jaysus…

We have to be careful with him and poo these days as he’s developed the truly vile habit of sticking his hands down his dirty nappy and spreading the love on any available surface. I hope this phase passes quickly.

I hate summer

Ahh, summer. Time for bugs and hay fever.

How I hate it.

What’s really not helping my mood these days is that one of the side-effects of the tablets I’m taking at the moment is increased sweating. They ain’t kidding. Added to that is that somebody at works keeps turning off the AC so the office is basically a sauna, without the ambiance.

Roll on, winter!

This takes the cake

Posted on June 6, 2011 By admin

I’ve had to do some fairly improbable and illogical things since becoming a parent but tonight must stand out so far.

I went to check in on Bean because we generally need to dig him out of a mountain of books, stuffed toys and blankets at this time of night.

Except that tonight, I couldn’t find him. It took about 30 seconds of frantic searching to find him sound asleep … under his bed. I had to get a flashlight and pull him out from under the bed by his feet. He barely woke up.

Random child.

Roger Waters, The Wall, O2 Arena

Posted on May 18, 2011December 6, 2013 By admin

Phil and I went to see Roger Waters perform The Wall in London last night, and the show lived up to expectations – even considering that I’d already seen it in Ottawa. They’d revamped some of it, which was a fun touch. Because of the tablets I’m currently taking, I couldn’t follow through with my original intent, but it was a great show nonetheless.

We’d decided to have a boys day out in town. We had lunch at a really nice sushi and noodle restaurant I’d seen online, called Taro, where I had a huge bowl of beef ramen. They didn’t kill me, which is a big plus. I need to bring Katy there next time we’re in town. Phil had never been to the British Museum and I’m always looking for a reason to pop in, so that was a nice way to kill a few hours. After that, we had a bit of a sit down in a pub and then headed back to the O2 to pick up the tickets and wait out the show opening. It was amusing to note that the average age of the concert goers was above 40, with some actually closer to their sixties and seventies :)

I can only hope to be this awsome when I’m 65

Posted on May 16, 2011 By admin

Roger Waters and David Gilmour have been involved in a bitter stand-off for a number of years but were reunited once again for a gig at London’s O2 Arena. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason was also on stage for the tour’s first of six nights in London, on May 12th. Gilmour’s surprise appearance was as a thank you to Waters who had previously accompanied him at a small charity gig. The solo tour sees The Wall being played live in the UK for first time in 30 years.

I have tickets to go see the show on the 17th. I missed out on the reunion gig, dagnabbit, but I’m still really looking forward to seeing the show.

And I know that I’m never going to be that awsome when I’m in my sixties.

Oh, to be young again.

Posted on May 14, 2011May 18, 2011 By admin

We went to see Avenue Q in Cambridge last night and had Becky watch the bean while we were out.

While she was revising for her exams, she had a hot chocolate, two bags of crisp, half a large bag of chocolate mini eggs and a pot of custard.

If I had that now, I’d die from the sugar rush. Getting old sucks.

As a side note, that girl is going to break hearts, if she’s not already doing so. There are worse things to be than young, blonde, smart and good looking. Also, I feel like the proverbial dirty old man.
